With the modern workplace’s new format post COVID, clocking into the office looks quite different these days in so many ways.
But as the corporate world switches up, it can also be confusing regarding what to wear. Your office is a place of work and a respectable ensemble is very much a part of the culture. I want to be so clear when I say, YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN A GOLF POLO AND AN ABC PANT, BOYS.
Here are a few ways to dress professionally but also inject a bit of personality into your M-F looks:
Find a casual jacket - more times than not, an outfit can benefit from a finishing layer. If a sport coat is too old school for your style, try a causal jacket.
Wear more textures - texture is one of the easiest ways to introduce visual appeal into a plain outfit. Instead of a regular cotton sweater, try one with a blatant knit pattern. Or instead of flat front chinos, try corduroy pants.
Focus on fit - this one only works if you work in a more lax office environment. Playing with the fit of your clothing could be a fun way to change up the vibe of your look. However, it’s important not to go too crazy. Start small. Trade out your straight leg suit pants for a slightly wider fit with pleats or even something a little cropped. You will be shocked at how much this can elevate your outfit.
Choose interesting shoes - any outfit can be elevated by adding a unique shoe. Try something with visually interesting texture, or something with a pop of color. If you are really serious about leveling up your work outfits, getting a nice pair of shoes should be the first thing you do.
Brands For Business Casual Clothes
A Kind of Guise - This is one of those brands where their entire collection could be your wardrobe. Everything that they make will allow you to feel presentable, mature, like you have everything under control, but also like you’re sporting trendy styles, cuts and textures. I am always recommending A Kind of Guise trousers to my clients, but this season I am particularly obsessed with their knits.
A.P.C - if you work in a more serious corporate job that doesn’t really slow for fashion risks, you should check out A.P.C. They have great classics that are more form fitting and appropriate for any type of office hob. All of their pieces have a timeless design and professional aura about them but you’ll still feel modern and unique.
Universal Works - known for their contemporary take on traditional British workwear, blending classic design with modern cuts and fabric. i think their catalog is perfect for someone that works in a relaxed office environment that allows you to play with your fashion. The majority of their items fit sort of boxy, relaxed and oversized but in a sophisticated adult way.
