New Year’s Eve is stressful. Getting dressed for it shouldn’t be. Here are a few outfit formulas to keep in mind for whatever your plans may be.
For A Big Night Out
There is no such thing as overdressing on New Year’s especially if you’re spending the evening at a party somewhere fabulous. Obviously, if the dress code is black tie - don your tux and a bow tie and call it a day (you don’t need me to tell you this). But if you do have a bit of creative flexibility, I have some ideas.
satin shirt + high waisted wide leg trousers + boot + overcoat
A satin shirt is so sexy, contemporary and luxe. Pair with some wide leg trousers and a sleek boot - tres chic, mon cheri. Add an oversized top coat for an added level of sophistication and well… warmth.
mesh tank + button down (unbuttoned) + blazer + trousers + derby
A spin on a classic look. I love the nonchalance of this. Something about controlled chaos always appeals to me. Accessorize with a brooch for a elevated touch.
suit separates + tank + silk scarf + boot
I have always been in favor of suit separates over a matching suit - so much more fun, far less serious. I also love the layering of the blazer over a tank - so much more relaxed. And lastly the silk scarf adds a unique and festive touch.
For A Dinner Party Guest
One of the best things about a dinner party is that the dress code is often more chill. I say, go for a timeless, effortlessly chic look.
white button down + black trousers + thin scarf + chunky derby
What is more classic than a white button down and black trousers? Spice it up by unbuttoning one more button than you normally would and add a thin scarf. Just to throw in some edge to this unfailing look, pair with some chunky derbies.
turtle neck + blazer + trousers + dress shoe
It’s giving academia, but in a chic way. Houses tend to get warm during a party so you want to wear something that still looks even if you have to take the top layer off.
For Hosting At Home
Hosting often means you are running around all night; handing out apps, serving drinks, mingling. Comfort is a must, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look great.
button down + double breasted blazer + jeans + sleek boot
Hitting the sweet soft of form and function, I think, would be a double breasted blazer over a patterned button down paired with your favorite pair of jeans and a sleek boot. It gives an air of ease but still mature.
pinstripe shirt + pinstrip pants + loafer
Simple, yet elevated with the stripes on stripes. I love this.
As always, thank you for being here and supporting me in this way xo
