How To Give Fall When The Weather Is Not

Incase you guys didn’t know, I’m based in Texas. Fall doesn’t really occur here. Which is so unfortunate, because the basic bi**h in me really loves a fall wardrobe. While I might not get to embrace the sartorial season fully, I have developed some ways to embody at least the ethos of fall dressing.

FABRICS

The fabrics you choose to wear can set the whole vibe and tone of your look. The way that linen gives summer and wool gives winter; suede, leather and corduroy give fall. However, when your “fall” is 87 degrees, it gets a little tricky. So the solution? Opt for things like cotton, denim, silk, anything with a waffle texture. Plaid, hounds tooth and checkered patterns also very much signify fall. Save the leather, corduroy and suede for your accessories - just trust me.

COLOR PALETTE

Choosing a fall color palette is such an easy way to feel like you're participating in proper fall. Brown is typically the stand out neutral of the season. And as for color, go for anything on the “True Autumn” color wheel.

I’ve mentioned several times that pops of red and burgundy are going to be trendy this fall but I also think a deep olive green is a great color to embrace.

TOPS

A long sleeve sweater might be a bit much right now, instead, go for a sweater vest with or without a tee shirt underneath, a knit short sleeve polo or something easily discard-able like a cotton cardigan or over shirt.

PANTS

For trousers, looser cuts, softly slouching fabrics, pleats and pinstripes defiantly say fall to me.

Wearing shorts is practical and acceptable. I say go for a pleated, corduroy or dark denim shorts to feel seasonal. Also, I would off set the proportions with a long sleeve over shirt or cardigan.

SHOES

Shoes are the one aspect of your outfit you can really give fall. Trade out your white canvas sneakers and thin sole shoes for a chunky leather loafer, Chelsea boots or a suede sneaker.

ACCESSORIES

Another area where you can really embrace the fall vibe is within your accessories. You know the quote “take one accessory off before you leave the house”? I think Coco Chanel said that and I am so sorry to be disrespectful, but I hate the idea of that. I say, flip it and reverse it. PILE ON THE ACCESSORIES. Suede, leather, animal print, studs - all of these things can really give your look a fall feel.
