There is such a missed opportunity for fashion in the world of golf spectating. I mean, it’s such a posh, sophisticated sport. It only makes sense the fans are just as chic.
Have you seen how people dress to Wimbledon? Courtside at NBA games? F1 races? People are always using sporting events as their own personal fashion show. So what happened to golf fans? They use to dress up (see photo above).
I was at the Houston Open last weekend and I couldn’t help but notice every male there, my husband included, was dressed as if they were anticipating getting tagged into PLAY the tournament. I assure you, you won’t be.
I get that you have to walk a lot, but that doesn’t mean you need to be in a golf shoe. Should I remind you again, you aren’t PLAYING, it’s not a requirement to look athletic on the golf course.
Maybe this resonates with absolutely no one and I sound crazy and naïve, but The Masters is next weekend so I thought we could discuss how to dress up for a golf tournament without going full golfer.
To start, the weather seems like its going to be absolutely perfect (except for Thursday). A bit brisk in the morning and gets up to 75 degrees at peak. Stunning.
I have split the days up into three vibes you could channel: Arnold Palmer, Ralph Lauren and Ivy League/Prep. I am skipping Thursday, because I don’t want to be responsible for ruining your clothes on a rainy day.
The key is layers.
Friday: Arnold Palmer
I realize he’s wearing a mock neck under a cardigan, but I don’t think the weather is going to be that intense. So instead, maybe throw a cardigan over a polo. Paired with breezy linen trousers and some gazelles. So good.
Saturday: Ralph Lauren
A knit polo is always a great way to elevate a look. Especially, one in this gorgeous blue, it’s different but not loud. Paired with some white chinos (from what I understand, jeans aren’t banned, just maybe frowned upon) and sneakers. Having a jacket for the morning will be nice, and when it gets too warm just tie it around your waist.
Sunday: Ivy League
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know how much I love a preppy/old money/ivy league look. I think the Masters, or any golf tournament, is the perfect time to channel the aesthetic. A pair of high waisted trousers with a camp collared shirt tucked in with sneakers is always chic. Throw a cable knit sweater on for the morning, and if it gets too warm you can tie it around your shoulders.
Hopefully this was helpful. As always, thank you for being here xo
