Wimbledon starts this week. My favorite grand slam of the year. Everything about it screams (actually whispers) elegance. The grass is exceptionally green, the players are donned in all white, and the umpires sport Ralph Lauren. Hello, chic. So, what are you wearing?
It’s a small but understood expectation that the attendees of Wimbledon dress up. There is no official dress code in most areas of Wimbledon but the over all messaging seems to encourage smart dress. So let’s discuss how to dress for a day/night at Wimbledon.
To start here are just a few styling tips to keep in mind:
Avoid full linen trousers. You will be sitting for a long period of time, your pants will crease A LOT. Instead go for a linen blend.
Your shoes should be comfortable but smart. An unlined loafer, penny or Belgian style is ideal.
Classic sunglasses are a must.
No jeans and no baseball hats, they are too casual - you’ll regret it I promise.
More or less we want to channel the quintessential English gentleman + garden party charm with a modern twist. When in doubt just remember, it’s always better to be over dressed than underdressed. Here are 4 outfit formulas to use for Wimbledon:
LOOK 1: matching blazer and straight leg trouser + high quality t shirt + loafers
I have maybe said this 87 times in the last few months - I love an all neutral look for summer. There are several ways you could use this look as inspo to create something that feels more you. Ditch the blazer and just have it be a lux tee tucked into a pair of straight leg trousers or replace the tee with a polo - you get the picture.
LOOK 2: mismatched blazer and trousers + knit polo + loafers
Wimbledon feels like a garden party, you’ll understand when you get there. It’s okay to add a bit of fun color if its balanced out with neutrals and Earth tones.
LOOK 3: striped button down + double breasted blazer + cropped chinos + loafers
Double breasted blazers are elevated and chic. It balances out the more casual cropped chino here. However, maybe don’t unbutton as many buttons on the button down - keep it conservative.
LOOK 4: white button down + tapered trousers + loafers + silk scarf
I know all of the above looks included a blazer however, don’t feel like you HAVE to wear one.
Below, I have used the above looks as inspo to create some outfits with direct links for my paid subscribers.
