Few occasions have confident dressers flustered like a first date. Listen, I get it. The stakes are high.
So here are 5 outfit formulas, made up of items that are probably already in your closet, to keep in mind next time you’re getting ready for a night out with the potential one.
General Thoughts…
I want to preface this by saying, these are all incredibly SAFE outfits. There is no risk, no crazy concepts or trends going on here. This is not to say you shouldn’t be taking fashion risks on a first date. By all means, do so. Be confident, wear what you want. This is just a guide for those that get nervous, confused, stressed and the Uber is coming in 6 minutes.
OBVIOUSLY, your personality should speak louder than your clothes. But it’s nice to look nice too…
You want to show that you look after your appearance but you’re not a slave to it.
Choose well fitting basics with quality fabrics that are soft to the touch - pieces that make you feel like your best, confident self.
Have a considered set of accessories - it’s intriguing.
Look 1:
lace or islet short sleeve shirt + tank + straight leg trousers + boot
This feels like the only outfit formula Michael B Jordan’s stylist allows him to wear. But hey, it works. If it’s good enough for Michael, its good enough for you. I like the concept of using a lace or islet shirt here for a few reasons. One, it promotes air circulation - which its great to combat the heat and also your nerves. And two, it gives the look a little personality. Its just a bit more interesting that a plain camp collar shirt.
Look 2:
plain t-shirt + wide leg trousers + belt + loafer
The shirt should defiantly be tucked in for this look. With the outfit being so simple, I do think you should opt for a fun belt. This look would also work with a nice boot to fill the volume of the trouser.
Look 3:
blazer + tank + light wash jeans + loafers + hat
I love the tension this look creates. The blazer and jeans combo is giving Christian Slater circa 1990. I like that the hat makes the whole thing less serious. This look can also be done with a nice thoughtful sneaker instead of a loafer.
Look 4:
white button down + light wash jeans + black belt + black loafers
This is so classic, its mindless. Very little can go wrong here. Your accessories will bring the charm to this look.
Look 5:
cream polo + cream pants + white sneakers
I think an all neutral look for the summer is ultra chic. All you really need here is a watch.
As always, thank you for being here xo
